Former Coventry midfielder Gary McAllister was today confirmed as manager of the first division club.

McAllister (37) spent four years at Highfield Road from 1996 before moving to Liverpool on a free transfer. The former Scotland international helped Liverpool to the UEFA Cup, the FA Cup and the League Cup last season.

He replaces Roland Nilsson who was sacked last week and in doing so becomes the third Coventry manager in seven months.

Coventry were relegated from the Premiership last season and failed to make the first division playoffs this year.
