A MAYO man who had been accused of murdering his mother earlier this month has been admitted to the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum, Dublin, a court heard yesterday.

Judge Mary Devins was told at a sitting of Castlebar District Court that Seamus Marrinan (29) of Blackfort, Castlebar, who is charged with the murder of Carmel Marrinan (61), in the family home in the early hours of July 7th, was admitted to the hospital last weekend and remains there.

Judge Devins remanded Mr Marrinan in custody to appear again at Castlebar District Court on August 12th.

Mrs Marrinan, a nurse by profession and a mother of seven, sustained fatal stab injuries in her home some time before 4am on July 7th.

She was treated by ambulance paramedics before being rushed to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where she was pronounced dead shortly after her admission.
