Maxol has announced the sale of a fuel that contains bioethanol at petrol stations across Ireland.
The Irish-owned company has begun replacing its regular unleaded petrol with its new E5 fuel, which consists of 95 per cent unleaded petrol and 5 per cent bioethanol.
The bioethanol is an organic material made from whey - a byproduct of the Carbery Milk Products cheese plant in Ballineen, Co Cork.
Maxol's E5 fuel will be available at 150 stations nationwide from September following a pilot scheme in the north east of the country.
