A cross-Border trade delegation headed by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin today began a four-day mission to Canada.

Northern Ireland Minister Maria Eagle is also be part of the group representing more than 30 companies.

Both ministers will speak at a function hosted by the Ireland-Canada Chamber of Commerce in Toronto. The event has been organised to assist Irish companies in winning new business and developing strong relationships in Canada.

"Ireland and Canada share a focus on developing the knowledge-intensive sectors of our economies, and both invest heavily in education, science and research and development," said Mr Martin.

"These similarities position us as ideal trading partners and present opportunities for synergies and increased trade.

"The Canadian market presents significant opportunities for Irish companies, particularly in knowledge-intensive sectors such as financial services, biotechnology, photonics, digital media and information communications and technology," the Minister said.
