The Minister for Health, Mr Martin, has been accused of lacking the political will to take on drug firms linked to the death of almost 90 haemophiliacs.

Mr Ray Kelly, board member of the Irish Haemphilia Society said after a meeting with the Minister today: "The vibes coming out of the room were that you would want to be a fool to think that something would be done against the US companies.

"The impression I got leaving the meeting was that there is not the political will to do something."

Mr Kelly added that their main grievances against the government were the lack of action after almost two years of pressure and the fact that Mr Martin looks set to be moved from his Government role in the autumn reshuffle.
