Dublin City Council staff are continuing to repair a large pipeline that was shut down after it burst yesterday.

The main at Marrowbone Lane, which provides drinking water to many areas of the capital, burst yesterday afternoon.

In a statement released this afternoon the council said repair work to main is almost complete and “once finished recharging the network will begin to return the supply to normal operation”.

This process is expected to take up to five hours and supply should return to normal later in the evening.

Due to the use of alternative supply routes many areas also experienced discoloured water however, the council said this is only a temporary problem and will clear as the situation returns to normal.

Tankers have also been deployed outside the Swiss Cottage pub on the Swords Road, Beaumont House Pub on the Beaumont Road and the car park of Our Lady of Victories Church on the Ballymun Road.

South Earl Street remains closed to traffic however Marrowbone Lane, Thomas Court, and School Street have reopened. The council asked motorists to avoid the area while the works are ongoing.
