A man is recovering in hospital after being shot in both legs in what the RUC described as a "paramilitary-style" attack in Belfast last night.

The 33-year-old man was found lying in an alleyway off Donegall Pass, in the city centre, at around 8 p.m.

He told the RUC that he had been walking along Causeway End Road in Lisburn when he was hit on the back of the head and knocked out.

An RUC spokesman said the man claimed he only regained consciousness in the alley where he was shot.
