Man pleads guilty to possessing explosives

A Dublin man has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to having explosives and ammunition in Co Meath last year.

A Dublin man has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to having explosives and ammunition in Co Meath last year.

Ciaran Dunne (23), of Elmbrook Avenue, Lucan, Co Dublin, admitted the unlawful possession of an explosive substance — 0.776 kilogrammes of black powder - and 100 rounds of ammunition at Smithstown, Julianstown, Co Meath, on January 21st, 2005.

Dunne was one of three men arrested following a Special Branch investigation into the activities of dissident republicans.

The court remanded Dunne in custody for sentencing at a later date.
