A Dubliner has pleaded guilty to a serious attack on another man in a city centre pub after the DPP agreed to put aside a charge of attempted murder in his case.

John Aherne (28) of Sillogue Road, Ballymun, and formerly of Champions Avenue, Dublin, pleaded guilty to causing serious harm to Mr Charles McGee (29), of Claude Road, Drumcondra, at the Blue Lion pub in Parnell Street, Dublin, on February 21st, 1999.

Mr Justice Carney put the case back to February 1st for sentencing.
