A 39 year old man appeared at a special court sitting yesterday on firearms and bank robbery charges

A 39 year old man appeared at a special court sitting yesterday on firearms and bank robbery charges. Mr Sean Hughes, of no fixed address, appeared at Castlebar District Court charged with robbing Mr John Kavanagh, manager of the Bank of Ireland, Foxford, Co Mayo, of £3,090 on Friday last.

Mr Hughes replied: "Nothing to say" to all charges. He is also charged with possession of a sawn off shotgun and a starting pistol with intent to rob.

Judge John Garavan remanded him in custody to appear at Balla Court, Co Mayo, on Thursday next.
