A 49-year-old Co Laois man has been found not guilty of a series of oral rapes and indecent assaults of his now 16-year-old daughter on the sixth day of his trial.

The jury at the Central Criminal Court disagreed on a verdict on a further series of indecent assault charges after spending almost eight hours in deliberation.

Mr Justice Smith earlier withdrew another 12 charges of rape and directed a not-guilty verdict on them following submissions by defence counsel Mr John O'Kelly SC.

The man originally faced a total of 34 charges of indecent and sexual assault, rape and oral rape of his daughter on dates from 1986 to 1997.
