Man injured in Swords shooting

Gardaí are investigating a shooting incident at a farm in Swords, Co Dublin.

Gardaí are investigating a shooting incident at a farm in Swords, Co Dublin.

The incident happened at about 3.30pm yesterday when a man, believed to be the farm owner’s son, was checking on the property at Kilsallaghan and noticed it had been burgled.

A silver Lexus at the scene drove off through the fields and the man gave chase. When the car became stuck in a ditch the two men exchanged words.

The driver of the Lexus then managed to escape onto the main road where he was picked up by a BMW X5 that drove off in the direction of Swords. A shot was discharged during the altercation.

Later that evening a 34-year-old man presented himself at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm.

He was transferred for treatment to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardaí in Swords are investigating and have forensically examined the Lexus.

No arrests have been made.
