Man injured in Belfast stabbing

A 22-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital after being stabbed in south Belfast in the early hours of today.

A 22-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital after being stabbed in south Belfast in the early hours of today.

The assault took place on University Road some time between 1.30am and 1.45am.

The victim's condition is not thought to be life threatening. He sustained injuries to his abdomen.

It is understood the man was standing with friends outside the Globe bar when he was attacked by a man unknown to him.

A 31-year-old man was detained at the scene by a friend of the victim and subsequently arrested by police. A 45-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the incident.

The PSNI has appealed for anyone who witnessed the assault to contact them.
