An unemployed man from Galliagh, Derry, appeared in court yesterday following the discovery of a quantity of Semtex in his house on Tuesday. Mr John Paul Duffy (30), of Knockalla Park, was charged with possessing 1.3 kg of Semtex, two timer units and other bomb making equipment.

He is also charged with possessing an automatic rifle and 441 rounds of ammunition. He was remanded in custody.
