A 28-year-old man has been arrested following a serious assault in Sligo town during the week.
The man was arrested in the town last night and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Ballymote Garda Station.
In the early hours of Thursday morning a 60-year-old man was seriously assaulted in the Cartron Point area of the town.
He was subsequently taken to Sligo General Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
