A man charged in connection with an incident in which a car containing three children was allegedly stolen was released on bail today.
Mr Martin Lumsden (18), York Street Hostel, Dublin, was charged with unauthorised taking of a car at Lorcan Avenue, Santry, last night.
Garda Eddie Carr told Dublin District Court he arrested Mr Lumsden in Raheny and after he was charged he made no reply. He objected to bail because the accused did not have a fixed address.
But defence solicitor Mr Michael Hanahoe said his client was resident in the hostel in York Street and should be granted bail with conditions that he sign on at a garda station.
He was unemployed however and would not be able to provide an independent bailsperson.
Judge David Anderson said that as the only substantial objection to bail was on grounds of residency, and as the accused could give an undertaking to reside in York Street, he set his own bail of euro 400. He also ordered him to sign on at Kevin Street Garda Station each day.
He remanded Mr Lumsden on bail to appear again on June 7.
