A 40-year-old Dublin man who began a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old youth has been given a one-year suspended sentence by Judge Cyril Kelly. Their relationship continued for five to six years.
The under-age offence emerged during an investigation into an allegation against the younger man last year. The older man was interviewed and admitted he knew it was wrong to engage in sexual activity with an under-age youth.
The man pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to committing an act of gross indecency, by performing oral sex on the youth when he was 15, on an unknown date between July 7th, 1993, and February 16th, 1994.
