A 46-year-old man died after a house fire in Tipperary town early yesterday.
Firefighters were called to the home, on Fr Mathew Street, after the blaze broke out at around 1am. A Garda spokesman said there was no one else in the house at the time.
Gardaí seize €1.2m worth of drugs
Gardaí in Dublin seized drugs worth more than €1.2 million over the weekend in three operations.
A man in his 20s was being questioned at Raheny Garda station last night following the seizure of cocaine with a street value of €75,000 early yesterday.
On Friday two men in their 30s were arrested in Tallaght in connection with the discovery of cocaine with an estimated street value of €1 million.
Report on Limerick prison protest
A report on the roof-top protest by five inmates in Limerick prison last Friday is expected to be forwarded to the director general of the Irish Prison Service, Brian Purcell, today.
The inmates climbed on to the roof at around 6.30pm on Friday and remained there for almost 12 hours. The reasons for the protest were unclear but it is believed the men were aggrieved about the transfer of an inmate to Cork prison.
