Gardai are investigating death of a 53-year-old man following an altercation in Drogheda last week.

Gardai are investigating death of a 53-year-old man following an altercation in Drogheda last week.

The man was pronounced dead in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin this afternoon.

Last Thursday he was involved in a row a number of young people in the Co Louth town.

Gardai were called to the scene of the incident at Bessexwell Lane and Shop Street, Drogheda at about 2.30pm on Thursday.

The man was admitted to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda last Sunday and was later taken to Beaumont Hospital .

The State pathologist was notified of his death. A post mortem is due to take place at Dublin city morgue tomorrow afternoon.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the incident, particularly anyone who was in the Bessexwell Lane and Shop Street are of Drogheda town on Thursday afternoon.

Gardai are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
