Man denies 62 charges of sexual assault of six sisters

A man has gone on trial accused of sexually assaulting six sisters over 10 years.

A man has gone on trial accused of sexually assaulting six sisters over 10 years.

The 52-year-old man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 62 counts of sexually assaulting the sisters at their home between 1995 and 2005.

Mary Rose Gearty SC, prosecuting, told the jury in opening the case that the accused man had been in a relationship with the girls’ mother and had lived with them. She said each of the girls would allege touching and some would allege there was oral sex.

Some would also say they were shown pornographic films.

Ms Gearty said some of the girls were aged six when the alleged abuse started and another up to 10. She said the abuse ended for most of the girls at 14 but it continued up to age 16 in one case.

The trial continues before Judge Desmond Hogan and the jury.
