A 56-year-old Co Monaghan businessman was found guilty by a jury of six men and six women at Monaghan Circuit Court yesterday of having unlawful sex with a 14-year-old schoolgirl in September 1984.
It took the jury six hours to bring in the verdict. The jurors disagreed on several other charges of indecent assaults and sexual assaults between 1982 and 1984.
Judge John O'Hagan remanded the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to a further sitting on May 30th on continuing bail for sentence.
