A thirty-nine year old man appeared at a special sitting of Ardee District Court tonight charged with the murder of German tourist Bettina Poeschel.

Michael Murphy of Rathmullen Park, Donore Road in Drogheda was arrested this morning and was charged with the murder of the German woman shortly before 8.30pm.

Another man and a woman, also in their 30s, were detained in Drogheda for questioning. They were released later in the day.

Murphy was remanded to Cloverhil remand centre until 2nd November.
