A FRENCH man was remanded in custody yesterday charged with the attempted murder of Father Edward Carroll at his church in north London.
Mr Nicholas Henri Gabriel Top (27), of Bunning Way, Holloway, north London, did not speak during his 10 minute appearance at Highbury Magistrates Court. He was arrested at his home after ringing the police last Tuesday afternoon.
Father Carroll (63), from Newry, was allegedly stabbed with a serrated kitchen knife between the shoulder blades late on Monday night as he was making a cup of tea at the Sacred Heart church, north London.
A Middlesex hospital, spokesman described his condition as "comfortable but serious".
