A 23-year-old man charged with the murder of Sharon Whelan, who was found dead with her two young daughters in their home on Christmas morning, has been further remanded in custody.

Postal worker Brian Hennessy, of Windgap, Co Kilkenny, appeared before Cloverhill District Court today.

Mr Hennessy is charged with the murder of Ms Whelan (30) and with two counts of criminal damage to a property and endangering the lives of Ms Whelan’s daughters Zsarah (7) and Nadia (2).

The three were found dead in their home at Roscon near Windgap, Co Kilkenny, on Christmas morning after neighbours spotted smoke coming from their rented farmhouse at around 8.30am.

Sgt Brendan Stynes made an application for Mr Hennessy to be further remanded in custody.

Judge Brian Sheridan remanded Mr Hennessy in custody on consent to appear at Cloverhill District Court on March 30th.
