A GRAPHIC designer set up an elaborate surveillance system in the roof of his home to secretly film people, including teenage girls, over a five-year period, a special sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Derry has heard.

District Judge Des Perry was told that Rodney Seffen (38), Highfield Road, Magherafelt, Co Derry, had installed a camera between the slates of his roof and that the camera was focused on the bedroom window of a teenage girl. He said he had set up the system as part of his professional work.

The defendant appeared in court charged with voyeurism, recording a person doing a private act, preparing for voyeurism, and operating equipment for the purposes of sexual gratification.

Refusing bail, the judge said there was a risk the defendant would reoffend. He also said a bail address offered by the defendant was unsuitable because six young girls lived there.
