Gardaí in west Dublin are investigating after a man was shot dead just a few doors from his home last night.
The 25-year-old was shot in the head several times outside a house in Lealand Close, Clondalkin, shortly before 10pm.
The man, who was from the area, was taken to Tallaght hospital, but he later died.
Garda sources said the victim was well known to officers and suspect the killing could be linked to a feud among gangs in the local area.
A grey BMW was found shortly after at Lindisfarne Park. Gardaí said an attempt had been made to set it on fire.
Gardaí preserved the scene for forensic investigation by the Garda Technical Bureau. They have appealed for anyone with information to contact them at Clondalkin Garda station.
Gardaí are investigating whether a second shooting incident in the same area in the early hours of the morning is connected to the fatal attack. It is believed the later gun attack may have been carried out by the victim’s friends in retaliation.
Two men were arrested after a number of shots were fired at the door and windows of a house in Lealand Avenue at about 2am.
No one was injured.
The men, both in their 20s, were intercepted by gardaí on patrol in the area.
A shotgun and ammunition were recovered, an the men are being held at Clondalkin Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
