A Dublin man has been charged with the murder of Mr Thomas Farrell in Ballyfermot this week

A Dublin man has been charged with the murder of Mr Thomas Farrell in Ballyfermot this week. The 43-year-old father of five was stabbed at his home at Cherry Orchard Avenue.

Mr Darren Rogers (20), Elmdale Park, Cherry Orchard, was charged at Dublin District Court, Kilmainham. Det Sgt Denis Smith told Judge Patrick Brady that Mr Rogers was arrested at 9.35 p.m. on Wednesday at Ballyfermot Garda station.

He was formally charged by Sgt Jim Flanagan. Sgt Smith said that when the charges were put to the accused he replied: "Nothing to say". Mr Rogers's solicitor, Mr Terry Hanahoe, said there was no application for bail.

Mr Rogers was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and will appear before the court on December 5th.

A man in his late teens was yesterday released without charge by gardaí. He had been questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act in relation to Mr Farrell's death. A file has been sent to the DPP.
