A cyclist has died after plunging 25 feet off a cliff at a small seaside village in north Dublin yesterday.
The 35-year-old’s cries for help were heard by a member of the public as he lay seriously injured on rocks at the bottom of the drop in Loughshinny.
The man was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital where he later died.
It is not known if he was blown over by a gust of wind or lost his balance on a cliff edge dirt track.
A Coast Guard spokesman said people near the cliff could hear the man calling for help, but could not see him.
Rescue services, who were called to the scene at around 11.30am, were forced to clamber over rocks from a nearby beach to reach the stricken cyclist
“He was still conscious at the bottom of the cliff when the helicopter crew got to him, but his condition deteriorated and unfortunately he later passed away,” added the spokesman.
Firefighters, the RNLI and Coastguard - all from Skerries - were involved in the operation.
