Dublin Fire Brigade was dealing with a major fire in Phibsboro early today, after the blaze was reported by a passing Garda patrol car. It was not known if there was anyone in the 10 room house on North Circular Road, beside Kelly's carpet store.

In another incident, a flat in one of the three Corporation blocks on Constitution Hill was set on fire by two masked men, who were seen running from the scene. Gardai believe that the flat, which was vacant at the Lime, had been used in the past for dealing drugs.

Earlier, smoke billowed into O'Connell Street, Dublin, as a fire in a derelict building in Moore Lane, off Moore Street, was quickly brought under control by Dublin Fire Brigade.
