Robin Reid claimed the IBO super-middleweight title in Belfast's King's Hall last night with a unanimous points decision over local hero Brian Magee.

Reid wrenched the title away from the 29-year-old, who hit the canvas on four occasions and survived a nightmare eighth round when he suffered a double knockdown and seemed to be out on his feet.

At the end of 12 ill-tempered, and at times scrappy, rounds Reid took the decision on all three judges' cards - 115-112, 114-111 and 113-112.

Former WBC champion Reid is now back in boxing's big time having overcome Magee, who entered the contest unbeaten in 22 fights.
