Ireland's first lung-transplant specialist has just been appointed, writes Dr Muiris Houston, Medical Correspondent. Dr Jim Egan, a graduate of UCG, will shortly take up the post as director of the National Lung Transplant Programme.

According to Medicine Weekly, Dr Egan will be based in both the Mater and St Vincent's Hospitals in Dublin. His initial responsibility will be to oversee the transfer home of lung-transplant surgery which Irish patients currently receive in Britain at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
