A NUMBER of Orangemen taking part in the loyalist picket at Harryville, Ballymena, Co Antrim, defied the leadership of their organisation by wearing their sashes.

Up to 100 people took part in the picket on Saturday outside Our Lady's Church during evening Mass. They blocked the road briefly, but were held back by a large force of RUC officers.

Last week the Grand Master of the Orange Order, Mr Robert Saulters, along with other senior officers, attended outside the church to oppose the loyalist demonstration, which has now continued for four months.
