The SDLP has welcomed a decision by the North's Parades Commission to restrict a loyalist band parade in north Belfast on Saturday.

Three bands had planned to walk from the Graymount Estate along the Antrim Road into the loyalist White City. But they will not be allowed to march through nationalist areas at Gray's Lane and a section of the Antrim and Serpentine Roads.

The commission last night said that if the parade went through these areas there was a risk of disorder. The SDLP Assembly member for north Belfast, Mr Alban Maginness, said the right decision had been made.

The organisers of the parade said last night they would not march along the route.
