Fewer than 1 per cent of the 500,000 adults with severe rea ding and writing difficulties are receiving tuition, according to a survey undertaken by the Na tional Adult Literacy Agency. It is holding a seminar tomorrow which seeks to explore how literacy is the beginning of inclusion by empowering learners to become fully participating members of society.

The seminar will be opened by the Minister for Education, Mr Martin, and will be ad dressed by Dr Kathleen Lynch of the Equality Studies Centre at University College Dublin and Mr Sam McAughtry.
