THE MAN charged with the murder of 35-year-old businessman Roy Collins in Limerick city last month has been further remanded in custody.

James Dillon (23), of no fixed abode, but originally from the south side of Limerick city, appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday. Mr Dillon is charged with the murder of father-of-two Roy Collins at Coin Castle Amusements, Roxboro Shopping Centre, Limerick, on April 9th last.

Yesterday was the third time Mr Dillon has appeared in court in relation to the alleged murder charge.

During the brief court hearing Insp Tom O’Connor, of Roxboro Garda station, said the book of evidence in the case was not yet completed and requested a four-week adjournment of the case. There were no objections from the defendant’s solicitor.

Judge Tom O’Donnell granted the application and remanded Mr Dillon in custody to appear before the court via video-link on June 17th.

The new video-link system between Limerick District Court and Limerick prison was used for the first time earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Judge O’Donnell described the new technology as “integral”. A special room has been set aside at Limerick prison to facilitate the appearance of people in custody via video-link.

The judge said he hoped the technology would be rolled out across the country. “It will be a slow process but I think it will play an integral part of what we do going forward,” he said.
