A number of inquests into violent deaths in Limerick in the last year opened yesterday.
The inquest into the death on July 7th of Mr John Ryan (47) - a victim of an ongoing feud which has claimed three lives in as many years - heard he died from gunshot wounds.
City coroner Dr Tony Casey read a statement from Deputy State Pathologist, Ms Marie Cassidy. The case was adjourned generally because of the ongoing Garda investigation.
An inquest into the death of Mr Robert Fitzgerald (23), shot dead on May 6th while on his way home from a party in Moyross, heard he died from gunshot wounds to his chest and head. The inquest was also adjourned due to ongoing Garda investigations.
A third inquest, into the death of Mr Edward Cully (21), Woodview Close, Woodview Park, Limerick, also opened yesterday. A report by Dr Bolster said the young soccer player died after suffering multiple stab wounds to his chest on February 9th last. Again the case was adjourned. A 19-year-old man is currently before the courts charged in connection with the death.
