The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board and Limerick County Council are investigating fish kills on the river Deel in west Limerick where hundreds of trout and salmon smolt have died. The Deel Anglers' Association claims that a three-mile stretch of the river is affected and some 300 wild trout were found dead.

The incident occurred last week. Waterkeeper Mr Joe Hurley revealed yesterday that 75,000 salmon fry were put into the river just four weeks ago.
