Like a Hole in the Head by Jen Banbury (Indigo, £6.99 in UK)

Jill works in an LA second-hand book store. She is a free spirit, cruising through life

Jill works in an LA second-hand book store. She is a free spirit, cruising through life. Then in walks a dwarf and sells her a very rare book for just $25. Later in the day he comes back with a large companion, asking for the book back. By this time Jill has given it to a friend to have it valued. The book and the friend go missing, and the dwarf's companion sets the dwarf's hair on fire to show what will be in store for Jill if she doesn't recover the volume. This sends her off on a mad-cap chase to Las Vegas and back, during which she suffers much hilarity and not a little pain. Luckily for the reader, he or she merely encounters the former.
