LEGAL FEES for the Moriarty tribunal for the three months to the end of July were €758,293, according to the latest figures.

The administration cost for the three-month period was €134,182, with a particularly large cost, €103,665, in May. The spokesman said the higher cost in May 2010 were due to salary recoupments for some civil servants on secondment to the administrative team.

The figures were released by a spokesman for businessman Denis O’Brien following a Freedom of Information request to the Department of An Taoiseach.

The tribunal’s confidential provisional findings on matters concerning former minister Michael Lowry, including matters to do with Mr O’Brien, were circulated to affected parties in November 2008. However, the tribunal has since then heard fresh evidence.
