Kuala Lumpur - The indictment of the lawyer of the jailed former finance minister, Mr Anwar Ibrahim, for sedition has sent shock waves through Malaysia's judiciary, already reeling from fallout from the ex-minister's criminal trials.

Mr Karpal Singh, an opposition politician and Mr Anwar's lead defence counsel, was charged in Kuala Lumpur's Sessions Court with making seditious remarks during Mr Anwar's sodomy trial. He was indicted for telling the trial in September that he suspected "people in high places" were trying to murder his client with arsenic.
