A Labour Party delegation is to meet the Chief Executive of Dublin's Mater Hospital tomorrow to discuss bed closures and job losses.

Party leader Mr Pat Rabbitte, Deputy leader and spokeswoman on Health, Ms Liz McManus and Mr Joe Costello will meet Mr Martin Cowley tomorrow morning.

They will discuss what Mr Costello said was "the biggest crisis the Mater has ever faced."

"We will tour the hospital for two hours, listening to patients and witnessing first-hand the stretched resources and overcrowded A&E department," he said.

"The Minister for Health, Micheál Martin, is bewildered by the crisis. Charlie McCreevy doesn't care, and the Taoiseach stands idly by as the main hospital in his own constituency is in crisis," he added.
