The Labour Party aims to attract new members in a recruitment drive that begins this weekend.

Party leader Mr Pat Rabbitte said the campaign hoped to build on the 2,200 new people who have joined Labour since he became leader last October.

"The growth of membership over the past 11 months reflects the impact the party has been making, but we need many, many more members to do the sort of things we want to do," Mr Rabbitte said.

Branches around the country will take part in the campaign, which begins tomorrow when DART stations in Dublin will be targeted.
