British Labour’s double-digit poll lead continued yesterday as the latest survey put them 10 points ahead of the Tories amid plummeting popularity ratings for the coalition’s leaders.

Research by Ipsos Mori put the opposition up by five points on 43 per cent and the Conservatives down by two at 33 per cent among those certain to vote – the widest gap between them for 15 months. The Liberal Democrats also lost three points, taking them down to just 9 per cent.

After a torrid two months for the administration, public dissatisfaction with the government soared to a record high of 67 per cent. That is around the mark seen at the tail end of the last Labour administration.

The net personal approval ratings of party leaders David Cameron and Nick Clegg also hit historic depths, of -28 and - 39 respectively.
