Knock airport is running its first-ever TV advertising campaign in the United Kingdom in a bid to lure more tourists this autumn and winter.

The Co Mayo hub has joined forces with Tourism Ireland in the cross-channel initiative, which is expected to reach 8.4 million viewers.

The ads will be screened on Channel 4, a number of Sky channels, Fox News, and other cable channels during programmes such as Deal Or No Dealand The Simpsons,and during Premiership football shows and the US Open tennis.

The theme of the TV commercial is "Discover the secrets of the west of Ireland" and focuses on golf courses, local heritage and culture and scenery.
