A MAN in his 40s from Listowel, Co Kerry, was in a serious condition last night after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a knife from his throat at Kerry General Hospital.

The man, who gardaí believe is originally from England but living in Ireland for many years, walked from his home in Neelish Close to a neighbour’s house some doors away to summon help. This was shortly before lunchtime yesterday.

It is understood the knife was still stuck in his throat at the time.

He claimed he had been stabbed at about 6.30am. Emergency services, including an ambulance, were called to the housing development, and the man was taken to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee for surgery. The knife was removed and the man was said to be in a serious though not life-threatening condition last night.
