Kicking King is a picture of health today after his triumph in yesterday's Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The new star of Irish racing travels home today for a hero's welcome in County Kildare and a well-earned rest before a possible tilt at the Punchestown Gold Cup on April 27th.

"The horse is fit and in good health," said trainer Tom Taaffe.

"He stayed at Cheltenham last night, and we led him around this morning and couldn't believe how well he was.

"He is on his way back to Ireland now, and won't do anything for at least 10 days. If he runs again this season, it will be at Punchestown."

Nursing a hangover after toasting the seven-year-old's success, Taaffe joked: "We don't need anyone to tell us how to party!

"I have a bit of a sore head today, but it still hasn't sunk in yet. But it is over now, and we have to get back on with it and look forward to the future."

Ridden by Barry Geraghty, Kicking King won the race by five lengths from Take The Stand, just over two weeks after having been ruled out of the race following a dirty scope.
