Kinane to appeal Newmarket ban

Irish jockey Mick Kinane will appeal against a seven-day ban imposed for irresponsible riding, the Jockey Club said today.

Irish jockey Mick Kinane will appeal against a seven-day ban imposed for irresponsible riding, the Jockey Club said today.

The ban, as it stands, would see him miss the ride on Aidan O'Brien's colt Johannesburg in the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the U.S. Triple Crown, at Churchill Downs on May 4th.

The appeal will be heard by the disciplinary committee of the Jockey Club at 9.30 a.m. on Friday.

Kinane was given the seven-day ban by Newmarket stewards last Thursday after his winning mount Sahara Desert caused interference to another runner.
