Declan Kidney's tenure as assistant coach to Eddie O'Sullivan will come to an end this summer when his current contract expires in July.

The former Munster coach has not been offered an extension to his existing deal;  he has instead been offered a role within the IRFU as their new "performance manager" - leading to speculation he may quit Ireland and coach in the Zurich Premiership.

Kidney, who insisted last week he will see out the remainder of his contract amid rumours he was set to resign, has been linked with the vacancy at Leicester and a possible move to Saracens.

It is unlikely that Kidney will take up the new role in the IRFU, described as "a critical new position identified by the Union for the development process of players in the age groups from school leaving to 21 years."

"While obviously disappointed by my current contract not being renewed, I appreciate the offer of this new position from the Union. However, the offer in question is not a coaching position as such, therefore while considering it, I will now be looking at all options open to me," he explained.

"In the meantime, I will as usual be concentrating on fulfilling my obligations to the best of my ability in the best interest of the team."
