The Government’s hands are not tied, a Social Justice Ireland delegation said after meeting the IMF-ECB-EU “troika” yesterday, according to the group’s director, Fr Seán Healy.

He was accompanied to the meeting by Sr Brigid Reynolds and Michelle Murphy, also of Social Justice Ireland.

The eight-person troika team at the meeting indicated that “it is the Government which makes decisions” but also said that “the Government had a lot of choices within existing parameters”, Fr Healy said last night. “It is quite clear that the Government’s hands are not tied,” he said.
