The jury in the trial of a Cork man, Mr Fergus Whitty (31), accused of murdering his six-month-old baby daughter, was sent to a hotel last night and is due to resume its deliberations at the Central Criminal Court at 10.30 a.m. today.

Mr Justice Flood had told the jury it could return a majority verdict of 11/1 or 10/2 if it could not agree on a unanimous verdict.

Mr Whitty has denied murdering the baby, Vanessa Kelly, in their home at Mount Vernon Crescent, South Douglas Road, Cork, on September 15th, 1996.
